The method used to control pH is to maintain the proper level of total alkalinity
To Lower the pH
acids or acid salts are added to the pool. Most common is Muriatic Acid
Muriatic Acid
Hydrochloric Acid- strong acid used to reduce the pH and total alkalinity and to clean scale or acid wash surfaces. It is also generated in the reaction of chlorine gas and water.
Total Alkalinity
the measure of the ability of water to resist changes in pH. It is a buffer. TA is like an anchor for keeping pH where it should be
