Verbal Genitive
is a Genitive Related to a Verbal Noun (actually belongs under "Adjectival Genitives")
Key to identification - Subjective Genitive
attempt to convert the verbal noun to which the genitive is related into a verbal form and turn the genitive into its subject

can take a transitive or intransitive verb

Matt 24:27 οὕτως ἔσται ἡ παρουσία τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ( so shall the coming of the Son of Man be =“so shall it be when the Son of Man comes”).

(Love of God = God loves X)
Key to identification - Objective Genitive
attempt to convert the verbal noun to which the genitive is related into a verbal form and turn the genitive into its direct object.

A simpler and less fool-proof method is to supply for the word of the words for, about, concerning, toward, or sometimes against.

can only be object of a transitive verb

Matt 12:31 ἡ δὲ τοῦ πνεύματος βλασφημία οὐκ ἀφεθήσεται (but the blasphemy of the Spirit shall not be forgiven = "blasphemy against the Spirit” or “blaspheming the Spirit”)

(Love of God = X loves God)
Key to identification - Plenary Genitive
The noun in the genitive is both subjective and objective. In most cases, the subjective produces the objective notion.

Apply the “Keys” used for the subjective and objective genitives. If both seem to fit in a given passage, and do not contradict but rather complement one another, then there is a possibility of a plenary (or full) genitive.

2 Cor 5:14 ἡ γὰρ ἀγάπη τοῦ Χριστοῦ συνέχει ἡμᾶς (for the love of Christ constrains us)
