Basics of the Adverbial Genitive
|
1) similar in force to an adverb. A
2) often has the force of a prepositional phrase (which, of course, is similar in force to an adverb). 3) normally related to a verb or adjective rather than a noun. (Even in instances where it is dependent on a noun, there is usually an implicit verbal idea in the noun.) |

Key to identification - Genitive of Price, Value or Quantity

For the word of supply the word for (in answer to the question, “How much?”). Also, remember that the noun in the genitive is a monetary/material word, and is related to a verb (once or twice with a noun) which is lexically colored (i.e., usually involving the notion of buying, selling, worth, etc., such as ἀγοράζω, πιπράσκω, πωλέω).

Key to identification - Genitive of Time
|
the noun in the genitive expresses an indication of time. The "of" typically becomes "during, at, or within."
Luke 18:12 νηστεύω δὶς τοῦ σαββάτου (I fast twice a week) The idea is that the Pharisee fasted twice during the week. |

indicates the place within which the verb to which it is related occurs.

indicates the means or instrumentality by which the verbal action (implicit in the head noun [or adjective] or explicit in the verb) is accomplished
For of supply by. This will be followed by a noun in the genitive case that is impersonal, or at least conceived of as such. Jas 1:13 ὁ γὰρ θεὸς ἀπείραστός ἐστιν κακῶν (for God is not tempted by evil) |

indicates the personal agent by whom the action in view is accomplished.
red flag of this usage is an adjective, usually ending in -τος, followed by a personal noun in the genitive. For of supply by. John 6:45 ἔσονται πάντες διδακτοὶ θεοῦ (they shall all be taught by God) |
