What are topographical maps?

Topographical maps show natural and man made features on the landscape. These include:


-roads


-structures


-bridges


-railway lines


-power lines


-hills, ridges, forests

What are Cadastral maps?

Cadastral maps indicate ownership boundaries of land.

What are local maps?

These are maps that CFA, brigade, local council etc. will produce to show their specific areas of interest.

What are street directories?

Detailed and fully indexed information relating to navigation by road networks in urban areas.

What are some considerations when using Melway maps?

-top of page is always north


-map scale at top right of left side page


-all pages have yellow border which overlaps next map


-select the most direct route


-firefighters must know the first turn when turning out to a job


-avoid high traffic areas


-use tram tracks wherever possible


-do not blindly follow another appliance
