Nucleus

The nucleus is the center of the cell. It holds DNA which has the instructions of all functions the cell needs to do.

Cell membrane

The cell membrane is the outer layer of the cell holding everything inside. It also controls all of the movement in and out the cell.

Cytoplasm

The cytoplasm is a gel like substance that keeps everything in place.

Mitochondria

The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. It takes oxygen and food to form energy that the cell can use for the tasks at hand.

Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)

The ER the first part of the transportation function in the cell. It transfers proteins and lipids to the Golgi complex so it can get to the places it has to in the cell.

Golgi Complex

The golgi complex is the second part of the transportation system in the cell. The golgi complex take proteins and lipids from the ER, packages them and sends them where they are needed in the cell.

Ribosome

The ribosome is the smallest organelle inside a cell. They make proteins which build, support or repair the cells and tissues. They can either be free in the cytoplasm or attached to the ER.

Vacuoles

The vacuoles are the storage compartments in the cell. They can store food water, and waste.

Lysosomes

The lysosome is only found in animal cells. It breaks down large food molecules into smaller food molecules. It also can break down waste and invaders.

Cell Wall

The cell wall is only found in the plant cell. It is a rigid structure that holds the shape of the cell. It also serves as extra protection and support.

Chloroplasts

The chloroplasts are only found in plant cells. They capture sunlight, and use water and carbon dioxide to produce food in the process of photosynthesis.

Eyepiece

Contains the ocular lense.

Course knob

Moves the objective lenses up and down to focus the image.

Fine Knob

Sharpens the image by moving the stage up and down a little.

Light Source

Controls the amount of light through the slide.

Objective lenses

Magnifies the image

Stage

Supports the slide when being viewed

Stage clips

Hold the slide in place.
