  • 3rd side (hint)

Prokaryotic

A single celled organism which lacks a membrane-bound nucleus

Eukaryotic

Organism whose cells contain a nucleus and other structures and close within membranes

Ribosomes

Organelles that consists of RNA and proteins. They are responsible for assembling the proteins of the cell

Nucleus

Essential part of most cells that contain genetic material and is enclosed in a membrane

Nucleolus

Dense body in the nucleus of most cells consisting of protein and RNA: ribosomes are produced here

ER ( endoplasmic reticulum)

A membrane Network within the cytoplasm of cells involved in the synthesis modification and transport of cellular materials

Mitochondria

An organelle in which the biochemical process of respiration and energy production occur

Powerhouse of the cell

Phospholipids

A major component of all cell membranes

Double sided membrane. One side is hydrophobic one side is hydrophilic

Golgi apparatus

A cell organelle that helps process and package proteins and lipids molecules especially proteins destined to be exported from the cell

The UPS of the cell

Lysosomes

A cell organelle containing enzymes that digest particles and that disintegrates the cell after its death

Chloroplast

An organelle that contains chlorophyll and in which photosynthesis takes place

Vacuole

An organelle Bound by a single membrane and containing water food or metabolic waste

Chromatin

Unfolded uncondensed extended DNA packaged by special proteins (histones)

Chromosome

Condensed DNA

Chromatid

Two identical copies of a single chromosome that are connected by a centromere

You see this in mitosis and meiosis

Exocytosis

Transport of material out of the cell by the means of a sack or vesicle

Exiting

Endocytosis

The transport of solid matter or liquid into the cell by means of a sack or vesicle

Entering

ATP

Nucleotide that contains high energy phosphate bonds and is used to transport energy to cells for the biochemical process

Enzyme

Proteins that speed up the rate of a chemical reaction in a living organism

Active transport

The movement of ions or molecules across a cellular membrane from a lower to higher concentration requiring the consumption of energy

Diffusion

The movement of molecules from a high concentration to a low concentration

Osmosis

Diffusion of fluid through a semi-permeable membrane

Isotonic solution

When two solutions have a equal solute concentration

Hypertonic solution

Refers to a greater concentration

Hypotonic solution

Refers to a lesser concentration
