North American Revolution

conservative movement because it wanted to preserve existing liberties; Grew from the British government's attempts to strenghten control over colonies through taxation; Revolution accelerated democracy within colonies; widening of political participation eroded power of traditional gentlemen

French Revolution

influenced by N.A. revolutions; launched through disagreements between Old Regime and the National Assembly's Declaration of the rights of man and citizen. Unlike the N.A. Revolution which experienced external tensions from the British Government, the French Revolution had conflict within it's own society

Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen (D.R.M.C)

created by the National Assembly who claimed sole authority over making laws for the country; declared that "Men are born and remain free and equal in rights" (Enlightenment thinking); ideas in D.R.M.C opposed the Old Regime of France
