What are binocular cues?
Cues that need two eyes that give depth information
What is retinal disparity?
Basically both eyes see object slightly differently and brain takes these two images to assess depth of object. Space between the eyes that allows binocular vision to create depth perception
What is convergence?
Bionocular cue that gives humans an idea of depth as well based on how much eyeballs are turned.
Things far away (convergence), eyes: relaxed or contract?
Far away = relax, close to our face = eyes contract
What are monocular cues?
Cues that only need one eye for. Gives form, motion, constancy
What is relative size (monocular cue: form)?
Closer an object is, the more it is perceived as bigger
What is interposition (monocular cue: form)?
Overlap:One object is in front of another and the front object seems like it is closer to you even though both images are on the same plane
What is relative height (monocular cue: form)?
Things higher are placed physically higher on the image plane are percieved to be farther away than those that are lower
What does shading and contours say (monocular cue: form)?
Using light and shadows to percieve form (like depth)
What is motion parallax?
It is a monocular cue in which things farther away move slower, closer things move faster
What is constancy?
A monocular cue perception of object doesn’t change even if the image cast on the retina is different. Different types of constancy include size constancy, shape constancy, color constancy
What is size constancy (monocular cue: constancy)?
When an object appears larger because it is closer, we still think it is the same size
What is shape constancy (monocular cue: constancy)?
When an object changes shape but we still maintain the same shape perception. For example, a door opening means the shape is changing. But we still believe the door a rectangle
What is color constancy (monocular cue: constancy)?
Despite changes in lighting which change the image color falling on our retina, we understand (perceive) that the object is the same color.
