Head Room
The space left between the top of the head and the top screen edge
Focus (statement)
Keep it focused! meaning that keep your story on main thing that you are filming don't stray away from it to film the cute stuff.
Kill the puppies
Do away with the cute irresistible shots and sound bites if they do not fit your focus of the film get rid of them(don't actually kill any puppies)
Lead in
an introduction to a story that is usually spoken by an anchor or reporter(the opposite of a cold open)
Lead out
The closure statement of a story and is usually spoken by the reporter.
Man on street
a person that happens to be on the street when something important happens like a witness perhaps a person giving an opinion on an issue.
On Camera Mic
The mic that is built into the camera and can be used to get audio from all directions
Lavaliere Mic
The mic that pins/clips to your shirt and Is usually used for interviews to capture the sound of the speaker or when the speaker is moving around.
Hand Held Mic

A mic that looks like ice cream(not actual ice cream do not eat)and can pick up sound very close to it and is used to interview people.

Shotgun Mic
A mic that is held by some who is not operating the camera to get sound that is 30 feet away and are often used as boom- mic's, held on poles above a speaker to capture dialog.
Nose-room
The space left in front of a person usually(from their nose to the side of the screen)from the direction they are looking also called "walking/talking" room.
Impedance
A resistance to signal flow
Fade
A gradual increase or decrease of the image and sound you also can fade an image to black or fade from black to an image.
Gain
An increase in the output of audio or video signal
Focus(lens)
Two ways to focus auto and manual. with manual you control the focus.to focus your shots zoom in then focus up close first then zoom back this helps when there is a lot of movement of dominate figures.in auto-focus it will automatically focus on the figures in the view finder.
Fire-Hosing
Shooting video continuously on the swivel what ever attracts the attention is where the camcorder is pointed which can lead to viewer dizziness and un-editable footage.
Natural sound
The ambient sound for the background or foreground of the video. I.e. crowed noise at a football game, cars, a busy street, etc.
Omni-directional
A microphone pick-up pattern in which the microphone hears equally well from all sides.
Owls
A crowd watching you work. if you're interviewing someone for a story, and behind that person is a bunch of people watching you interview are owls(avoid the owls and people are attracted to cameras)
Package
A complete piece of produced video. often includes the form of a story and usually includes VO, stand-ups, interviews, b-roll, and primary footage.
Pick-up Pattern
the description of the directionality of a microphone. (two prominent microphone pick up patterns are omnidirectional and unidirectional).
Post-production
The phase of television production that includes all activity after the raw footage is shot.
Pre-roll(and Pad)
Shooting a few seconds early to allow editing or to keep taping at the end of a shot. (the record button should be pushed seconds before action or interviewing begins).
Point Of view
To a camera operator, this refers to how the shot is taken. to a reporter, this is the perspective from which a story is told.
