Balance/White Balance
What White balancing does is adjust the intensity of the colors being recorded according to the existing light. depending on the camera it will white balance automatic or it will be internal ( you should always focus the camera on anything white like a t-shirt or paper.)

Every project has a beginning, middle, and an End (think in these terms as you plan edit )
BSTR
"Better said then read." Don't make your audience read unless absolutely have to, voiceovers, stand- ups and sound bites should tell the story without having to text type in your video

Wide- a wide shot of any video


Medium- a shot of the wide shot just closer


Tight- a close up of anything your trying to film

Cold open
when a newscast starts off with a video of a top story before going to the anchor on the set.
Composition
be aware of what is in your shot and what isn't .can you clearly see what you intend for the viewers to see? are there any distractions? is it creative and/or interesting? mostly anything distracting in the background of your subject can mess with the viewers perspective.
Crawl
Graphics that move across the bottom of the television screen, from right to left. ex : the Weather Alert" that moves along the bottom of the screen is a crawl
Cue(n)
A visual or verbal signal signifying that cameras are rolling (sometimes has to do with a countdown)
Cue(v)
The act of rewinding and/or fast forwarding a video or audio clip so that the desired section is ready for play. ex: "cueing the tape before an interview to include it in the news show"
Cut
The instantaneous, direct switch from one picture to another. hard cuts almost always work better than fancy digital transitions.
Cutaway Shot
Interruption of a continuously filmed action by inserting a view of something else the followed back by a cut to the first shot and helps avoid jump cuts while creating a longer sequence.
Date stamp/Clock
make sure this feature is turned off at all times. you cannot delete the time-stamp from your video but can add it later in post-production and will only appear in the view finder you'll have to re-film if necessary if you don't want the time on your view finder.
Deadline

Digital Zoom
A increase on the lens zoom capability by enlarging it digitally instead of optically causing it to become pixilated.
Dissolve
A video transition in which the first video signal is gradually replaced by the second video signal.
Dolly(n)
A set of casters attached to the legs of a tripod to allow the tripod to roll
Dolly(v)
A forward/back rolling movement of the camera on the top of the tripod dolly.
Dub
to make copy's of the original tape to get the highest quality of copies ("dub or double " a tape")
Editing
the process of organizing, combining, adding, altering, and deleting audio and video elements to create a television broadcast
Expectation
Always "expect something to go wrong that way you won't be disappointed."
