Only approach tires from forward and aft. Clear area of personnel for 300 feet. Do not apply extinguishing agent as brakes are made of magnesium and may explode. Contact maintenance control so the fire department can be alerted. Taxi aircraft so side with hot brake is pointed away from personnel and equipment.

What should a PC do if he/she does not understand a pilot's signal during launch or recovery?
Signify to the pilot that you do not understand. If the pilot continues to give the same signal, notify line supervisor or QA rep on the flight line for assistance.
What should a PC do if a pilot ignores hands off signals or a ground crewman enters an unsafe area?
The PC should strike the aircraft's nose and repeat hands off signals. If the pilot continues to move flight surfaces, the PC must remove the ground crewman and/or shut down the aircraft. The PC should immediately contact line supervision or QA.
