true....that's that vena caval thrombosis & metastatic pneumonia shit from above
Explain the vena caval thrombosis & metastatic pneumonia thing.
Explanation - By chance a liver abscess in a few animals that develop rumen acidosis may form near the posterior vena cava and cause infected thrombi to break off and move down pulmonary arteries into the lung until they lodge and form an abscess. Pulmonary embolic abscesses then create tracts from affected arteries to an airway, which results in pulmonary bleeding. This condition is extremely difficult to treat successfully and animals usually die within months of a massive bleed.

In paradoxic aciduria in the cow, which ion is exchanged for sodium in the renal tubules?
H+ (ie the cow is pissing out acidic urine)
Paradoxic aciduria is often due to HCl trapping in the abomasum, eg from a torsion.

Why is it called PARADOXIC aciduria?
because the cow's HCl is trapped, the body is in an alkalotic state, so you would assume her piss would be alkaline. However, her pee is H+ rich
WHY is her pee acidic if she's got paradoxic aciduria?
I really dont know if I understand this, which means the explanation might be wrong.

Low Cl --> dehydration & high bicarb (always vary inversely remember?).

= alkalotic cow

H+ out in exchange for K+ into cells = hypokalemic cow

Kidney tubules start to use H+ instead of K+ to exchange for Na so to conserve Na. So they excrete the H+ in their urine.
