Stretch Reflex
1. Homonymous activation: Monosynaptic activation of homonymous alpha motoneurons by Group Ia afferents.
2. Synergistic excitation: Monosynaptic activation of motoneurons innervating synergistic muscles
3. Antagonist inhibition: Disynaptic inhibition (synapse on inhibitory interneurons) of motoneurons that innervates antagonist muscles (reciprocal innervation)
Muscle tone
Resistance of a muscle to active or passive stretch
Inverse myotatic reflex
Golgi tendon organ stimulation. Group Ib fibers disynaptically inhibit homonymous motoneuron pool, causing relaxation, and disynaptically exciting motoneurons of antagonists.
Clasp-Knife Reflex
Dramatic demonstration of Golgi tendon reflex in a hypertonic or spastic muscle. Initial resistance followed by rapid flexion.
