What is a VLAN
|
A grouping of hosts that are able to communicate in the same broadcast domain even if they are not plugged in to the same physical switch

What is a PVLAN
|
Private VLANs are an extension to the VLAN standard and add further segmentation of the logical broadcast domain to create "Private" groups

What two groups comprise a PVLAN?
|
Primary VLAN - The original VLAN that is divided into smaller groups
Secondary VLAN - The secondary PVLANs only exist inside the primary. Each secondary has a specific VLAN ID associated to it |

What are the three types of secondary PVLAN?
|
Promiscuous - Hosts may send and receive packets to any node in any other secondary VLAN
Isolated - Hosts may only send and receive packets from the promiscuous PVLAN Community - Hosts may send and receive packets from other hosts in the community VLAN and the promiscuous PVLAN |
