Define passive immuntiy |
The production of antibodies in an individial from an outside source. You have no direct contact with the pathogen. No lasting immuntiy, no memory cells are produced. |
E.g. when antibodies pass to the fetus from the mother through the placenta |

What is active immunity |
Stimulation of the production of antibodies by an individual's own immune system. Direct contact with the pathogen is required. Types: 1) natural active immuntiy 2) artificial active immuntiy |

What's herd immuntiy |
When a sufficient proportion of the population have been vaccinated, making it difficult for the pathogen to spread. Important because it hard to vaccinate everyone in the population. |
