1. New England Colonies- What was the religion/major industries? Why did they move here?
Athenian Direct Democracy; shipbuilding, fishing, lumbering, small-scale subsistence farming, and manufacturing were major industries; economic opportunity and religious freedom are reasons why people moved here.

The French and Indians got along very well.
12. What happened in 1619?
First slaves were introduced to Jamestown; they started as indentured servants, but eventually large numbers of Africans were brought via the “Middle Passage.”

created by John Locke. He stated everyone has the right to life, liberty, and property; model for the Declaration of Independence.
19. Thomas Paine- What did he write?
He wrote a pamphlet called “Common Sense,” which gave the colonists reasons why they’d be better off independent.
20. Declaration of Independence- Who wrote it?
States that all men have rights and government is created to protect these rights; Thomas Jefferson wrote it.

War between England and France, with the prize being in control of North America. England won the war and had control, but the war created a huge war debt.

Colonists were no longer allowed to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains.
24. Stamp Act-
England put a tax on all documents.
25. Why were new taxes put on the colonies?
England needed to pay for war debts from the French and Indian War.
26. Boston Tea Party-
In protests of the new tea tax, colonist dressed as Indians boarded an English ship in Boston Harbor, then dumped hundreds of chests of tea overboard.
