What do melanocytes do?
|
These cells manufacture and store melanin and inject that pigment into the epithelial cells of the stratum germinativum and stratum spinosum. It's activity slowly increases in response to sunlight exposure.

What does melanin do?
|
It helps prevent skin damage by absorbing ultraviolet radiation before it reaches the deep layers of teh epidermis and dermis.
