What are the indications for RSI (rapid sequence induction)?
|
-trauma pt with GCS of 8 and gag reflex
-trauma pt with significant facial trauma and poor airway control. -closed head injury or hemorrhagic CVA needing hyperventilation. -Burn pt with airway involvement and inevitable airway loss -Severe asthma or COPD with hypoxia and respiratory exhaustion. -Overdoses, i.e. tricyclics, where loss of airway is inevitable. -Any combative, agitated or confused pt who needs definitive airway control. |

When succinylcholine is administered, it has a "down side". Name that down side and describe it.

"Fasciculation" is when a drug sycg as succinylcholine depolarizes by neuromuscular blocking, acting on the receptor sites allowing one last response as they are blocked off.
