a. Launch Life boats
** a. Launch Life boats

-Remove all protective covers from equipment.
-Ensure the floating block links are secure.
-Release the boat gripe and stopper bar free from the davit arm, remove gripes.
-Raise the manual brake lever and allow the davit arms to roll down the track ways to the outboard stop position, controlling the speed with the manual brake.
-After the davit arms reach the outboard stop position,
Continue lowering the boat until it reaches the lowering position. The tricing pendant will automatically bring the boat inward to the loading position. Secure the boat with frapping lines.
-After personnel have embarked, trip the McCluney hooks on the tricing pendants, slack off on the frapping lines, allowing the boat to swing outward to the lowering position.
-Raise the manual brake lever, lowering the boat to the water.
-When the boat becomes waterborne, the boat is now free of the davit system.
102.5 Discuss the operating procedures for the following ship's boat davits:

b. launch life rafts
** b. launch life rafts
1) LOWER THE DAVIT ARM - Pull gripe release lanyard. Raise brake handle to lower davit to full outboard position.
2) POSITION RAFT – Position raft in launch area. Secure browsing lines and inflation lanyard to cleats. Release raft hooks from davit.
3) DEPLOY RAFT – Insert hand wheel on winch. Rotate hand wheel until stop reaches davit. Pull inflation lanyard, Raft inflates. Remove hand wheel and store on davit.
4) BOARD RAFT – Board raft. Do not exceed rated load capacity. Sit uniformly around raft to spread load evenly.
5) LOWER RAFT – release and clear away browsing lines and inflation lanyard. Raise brake handle to lower raft to water.
6) UNHOOK RAFT – When close to or on water surface, pull lanyard to cock hook for automatic opening. If hook fails to open automatically with raft floating, pull lanyard again firmly.
7) RETRIEVE HOOK – Raise falls with quick turns, return wheel stop when hook reaches wire pendant. Pull hook in with recovery line. Repeat 2 thru 6 to launch subsequent rafts.
8) STOWING DAVIT – Attach raft hook to davit. Insert hand wheel on winch. Rotate hand wheel until davit reaches stop at full inboard position. Remove hand wheel and store on davit.
