Step 1
People (constituents or senator) propose a bill.
Step 2
Bill is introduced in House or Senate.
Step 3
Standing Committee: Where the bill is introduced. They can send it back with no changes, make changes and send it back, or do nothing.
Step 4
Bill goes on calendar to be voted on—if over ½ vote “yes” it moves on.
Step 5
Bill moves to the other House of Congress where it goes through steps 3 & 4 again.
Step 6
Bill is passed through both House and Senate.
Step 7
President can sign or veto bill. If veto 2/3 vote of Congress can override it to still become law.
