Son of a blacksmith in Iowa, he was orphaned and raised in oregon by his grandparents. He went to Stanford in 1895. His first job was working as a geologist, a mining engineer in Australia. He made a fortune and used it to work in public service. He was in Hardings cabinet as Secretary of Commerce in 1921.
Why was Hoover an American Hero?
In 1914 during WWI he evacuated tourists, diplotmats, and buissnessmen. In 1918 he raised money and got food for Europeans.

He was governor of NY. He believed in allowing alchohol, "wet" believer. He was the first Roman Catholic to run for president.
