4 Causes of the Civil War |
1. State Rights: The south felt that the rights of the individual southern states were taking a back seat to the growing power of the Federal government. 2. Slavery: Could slavery continue to exist in the south with growing disapproval of the north? 3. Fanaticism: Both the north and south had their share of people who believed that only war would settle the problem regarding slavery. 4. Economic Conflict and the Struggle for Power: The south was at a disadvantage in the growing economic success of the north. In many ways the south was an economic colony of north. |
