Understand the following terms: cabinet, executive order, Take Care Clause, implied powers, vesting clause, pocket veto, administration and bureaucracy.

Cabinet- The heads of the executive departments. The president appoints members of the cabinet



Executive Order- a rule or regulation issued by a president or governor that has the force of law



Take Care Clause- The President must "take care that the laws be faithfully executed" or whatever the president wants



Implied Powers-



Vesting Clause = tons of power?



Pocket Veto- The automatic killing of a bill by refusing to either sign it or veto it; this can occur only in the final days of a congressional session



Administration- The president, along with his or her personal staff and advisors. The term can also refer to a president's time in office



Bureaucracy- a large complex organization that functions under uniform rules and procedures

Know the various interrelations between the branches (that is, how does the executive branch check other branches and how is the exectutive branch checked?)

By signing and veto a bill also can nominate judges

Chief Diplomat- oversees U.S foreign policy, holds talks with foreign leaders and negotiates treaties

Chief Manager of Economy- helps Congress write a federal budget and set tax policy also appoints members of 5eh Federal Reserve Board



Chief of Party- is the leader of his or her political party



Chief Citizen- strives to embody American ideals and to serve the nation by acting in its best interests

Executive Office of the President- to provide support staff to the president preforms a variety of specialized tasks for the president



Executive Departments- an organization within the executive branch that carries out the work of government in a broad area of public policy, such as agriculture or labor



Independent Agencies- an organization within the executive branch that does not belong to any executive department and answers directly to the president
