What caused the Panic of 1819?
People would take loans to speculate [flip] land in the West. When the land wouldn't sell, they couldn't pay back the loans and the banks lost money. [like a foreclosure]

Maryland taxed the local branch of the Bank of US, but the taxing was ruled unconstitutional. [McCulloch was head of Bank of US branch]
What was the Cohens v. Virginia case?
Cohens tried to sell an illegal lottery, and Virginia sued and won. This case gave the Supreme Court the right to review any state Supreme Court case.
What was the Gibbons v. Ogden case?
Gibbons was operating a steambot service and Ogden filed a complaint to stop Gibbons from doing this. This case proved that the power to regulate interstate commerce was held by Congress.
What was the Dartmouth v. Woodward case?
The state of New Hampshire tried to alter Dartmouth College's charter, changing the school from private to public. The significance of the ruling was that it gave legal rights for land grants to act as a legal contract.
