Pectoralis Major |
Origin- medial half of clavicle, sternum, first 6 costal cartilages. Insertion- lateral lip of bicipital groove of humerus. Crest below greater tubercle. Action- adducts arm, flexes arm, medial rotation, depression of arm. |
Pectoralis minor |
Origin- external surface of 3,4,5th ribs. Insertion- Coracoid process of scapula. Action- draws scapula forward and down. Raise ribs in forced inspiration. |
Coracobrachialis |
Origin- tip of Coracoid process Insertion- middle medial surface of humerus. Action- flexes arm and weak adduction. |
Trapezius |
Origin- occipital protuberance. Spinous processes C7 to T12 Ligament nuchae. Insertion- lateral clavicle, medial acrominon and spine of scapula. Action- elevates scapula, adducts scapula, depresses scapula. |
Latissimus Dorsi |
Origin- spinous processed T6- Sacrum. Inferior angle of scapula, Posterior iliac crest. Insertion- bottom of bicipital groove. Action- extends, adducts, medial rotation. Keeps inferior angle down and backwards against chest wall. |
Levator scapulae |
Origin- transverse processes of first vertebrae. Insertion- medial border of scapula above spine. Action- elevates medial border. lateral flexion of neck. |
Rhomboideus Major |
Origin- spines of T2-T5 Insertion- medial border of the scapula below spine. Action- retracts scapula |
Rhomboideus minor |
Origin- spines of C7 and T1 Insertion- medial border by spine Action- Retracts scapula |
Serratus anterior suoraspinatus |
Origin- outer surface of ribs 1-8 Insertion- anterior surface of medial border of scapula Action- rotates and protracts scapula |
Deltoids |
Origin- Anterior- border and superior surface of lateral third of clavicle. Middle- lateral border of acromion Posterior- lower border of spine of scapula Insertion- deltoid tuberosity of humerus. Action- abducts, flexes and medically rotates arm. Extends and laterally rotates arm. |
Suoraspinatus |
Origin- supraspinous fossa of scapula Insertion- greater tuberosity of humerus Action- aids addiction (rotator cuff) |
Infraspinatus |
Origin- infraspinous fossa of the scapula Insertion- greater tubercle Action- laterally rotates arm (rotator cuff) |
Teres Minor |
Origin- lower lateral border of scapula Insertion- greater tubercle Action- lateral rotation of arm and weak adduction (rotator cuff) |
Subscapularis |
Origin- subscapularis fossa Insertion- leader tubercle Action- medially rotates arm (rotator cuff) |
Teres Major |
Origin- lateral border by inferior angle Insertion- bicipital groove Action- medially rotates, adducts, extends arm |
