What is Bursitis?

Inflammation of the bursae (fluid-filled sacs that enclose joints). Can involve the formation of calcification in surrounding tendons. Causes pain and limited join mobility.

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

It is caused by compression the median nerve that runs through the wrist. It is painful, and most common in middle aged women.

What is a Boxer's Fracture?

A transverse fracture extending through the metacarpal neck.

What is a Colle's Fracture?

Transverse fracture of the distal aspect of the radius - the distal fragment the becomes displaced posteriorly.

What is Joint Effusion?

The accumulation of fluid in the joint cavity. This is often times a clue to underlying problems such as a fracture, inflammation, or dislocation.

What is Osteomyelitis?

Localized bone/bone marrow infection that is caused by bacteria.

What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Chronic systemic disease that involves swelling, bone erosion, and some pain. 3 times more common in females than males.

What is Osteogenic Sarcoma?

A type of primary cancerous bone tumor, most common in people ages 10-20.

What are Fat Pads/Bands/Stripes?

Accumulation of fat that can be used to determine if there has been an injury by looking at the placement and position of the fat pad itself.

What is a Sesamoid?

A small, detached (free-floating) bone. The largest sesamoid in the body is the patella (knee cap).
