Arch of the aorta
Begins at the level of the upper border of the second sternocostal articulations, runs at first upward, backward, and to the left. It then proceeds downward and becomes the thoracic aorta.
Brachiocephalic
The branch that only appears on the right side of the aortic arch.
Subclavian
Two branches off the aortic arch (or right Brachiocephalic) that lie below the clavicles and feed the upper extremities w/ blood.
Thyrocervical trunk
A branch of the subclavian artery that is located distal to the vertebral artery. It is the source of two other arteries.
Transverse cervical a. of the Thyrocervical trunk (superficial branch)
Anastomoses- occipital a. (head & neck)
Transverse cervical a. of the Thyrocervical trunk (deep branch)
"[deep branch is named dorsal scapular artery if it arises independently from the subclavian a.]
Suprascapular a. of the Thyrocervical trunk
Anastomoses- circumflex scapular, deep transverse cervical
Axillary a.
The continuation of the subclavian a. Begins distal to the 1st rib and ends proximal to the Teres major m.
Thoracoacromial trunk of the Axillary a.
A short trunk that branches to feed the muscles of the axillary region.
Lateral thoracic a. of the Axillary a.
A vessel that supplies blood to the lateral structures of the thorax and pectoral region.
Subscapular a. of the Axillary a.
Supplies blood to the Subscapularis muscle.
Anterior circumflex humeral a. of the Axillary a. (ACHA)
"Supplies blood to the humeral head.
Posterior circumflex humeral a. of the Axillary a. (PCHA)
"Larger than the ACHA; Feeds the deltoid m.
Brachial a.
A continuation of the Axillary a. beginning distal to the Teres major m. and ending proximal to the cubital fossa.
Profunda brachii
"A branch of the lateral-posterior side of the Brachial a. just distal to the lower border of the Teres major m.
Radial collateral branch of the Profunda brachii
Anastomoses- radial recurrent a.
Middle collateral branch of the Profunda brachii
Anastomoses- interosseous recurrent a.
Superior ulnar collateral a.
Anastomoses- posterior ulnar recurrent a.
Inferior ulnar collateral
Anastomoses- anterior ulnar recurrent a.
Ulnar a.
"Forms from a bifurcation of the brachial artery at the cubital fossa;
Anterior ulnar recurrent a.
Anastomoses- inferior ulnar collateral a.
Posterior ulnar recurrent a.
Anastomoses- superior ulnar collateral
Deep palmar branch
Anastomoses- deep palmar arch of radial a.
Superfical palmar arch
"Anastomoses- superficial palmar branch of radial a.
Radial a.
"Forms from a bifurcation of the brachial artery at the cubital fossa;
Radial recurrent
Anastomoses- radial collateral a
Superficial palmar branch
Anastomoses- superficial palmar arterial arch of ulnar a.
Deep palmar arch
"Anastomoses- deep palmar branch of ulnar a.
