Anatomy of the Brachial Plexus. where is it formed, innervation, what nerves.
Formed by the ventral (ant) rami
C5-T1 (occasionally C4 and T2)
Through the neck, axilla & arm
Cutaneous and muscular innervation of the entire upper limb
What are the branches?
Muscuclocutaneous C5-C7
Axillary (C5,C6)
Radial Nerve (C5-T1)
Median (C5-T1)
Ulnar (C7-T1)
Musculocutaneous nerve
Motor and Sensory
the muscle beach enrve
-Biceps brachii
-brachialis
-coracobrachicalis
SENSORY: Lateral skin distal to the elbow.
What is the Axillary Nerve? Motor , Sensory
The axillary nerve is the militant nerve.
MOTOR: Deltoid, Teres Minor
Sensory: Caspule of the shoulder, skin of the shldr
"Regimental Badge of the Axillary Nerve"
What is the Radial Nerve>
Morot, Sensory
Radial NErve is the GREAT EXTENDER

MOTOR: Triceps Brachi
-Supinator
-Aceoneus
-Supinator
SENSORY: Dorsolateral surface of hand & arm
Names and innervations for the TRUNK?
Superior or Upper: C5-C6
MIDDLE : C7
INFERIOR or Lower (C8-T1)
breakdown for the divisions.
SIX DIVISION: form the 1st RIb
ANTERIOR DIVISAION: upper middle, lower trunks= FLEXORS
POSTERIOR DIVISION + upper , middle, lower , trunks= EXTENSORS.
breakdown of the cords.
six division regour ot become 3 cords:
1.-POSTERIOR: the 3 posterior division of the trunk, (C5-T1)
2. LATERAL CORD: anterior division of the upper and middle trunk (C5-C7)
3. MEDIAL CORD- a contuation of the lower trunk (C8-T1)
The brachial plexus is responsible for the cutaneous and muscular innervation of the entire upper limb. What are the 2 exceptions
2 excetptions are the trapezius muscle, inenrvated by the spinal accessory nerve (CNXI), 2) the area of the skin near the axilla innervated by the intercostobrachialis nerve.
Musculoucutaneous nerve:what is its course: Jenns notes
-leaves the fasical sheath of the plexus approx at leevel of the coracoid process.
-pierces the coracobrachialis muscle just distal to the pectorialis major.
-contues as the 2 branches (ant/post) of the lateral antebrachia cutaneous nerve of the forearm at the antecubital fossa
-courses along the lateral aspect of the forearm.
