Insertion: Ulnar tuberosity and the coronoid process

Biceps Brachii

Origin: Long Head-supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula. Short head-coracoid process


Insertion: Radial tuberosity


Actions: Flexion at the shoulder and elbow and supination at RU joint

Subclavius

Origin: 1st rib


Insertion: Inferior aspect of middle of 1/3 of clavicle


Action: Depresses clavicle or reverse action elevates of 1st rib

Coracobrachialis

Origin: The apex of the coracoid process of the scapula


Insertion: Medial 1/3 of the shaft of the humerus


Actions: Flexes the arm at the GH and adducts the arm at the GH

Pectoralis Major

Origin: Medial clavicle, sternum, ribs 1-7


Insertion: Lateral lip of the bicipital groove


Actions: Adducts the arm at GH joint, medially rotates the arm at GH joint, flexes the arm at the GH joint, horizontally adducts at GH joint

Pectoralis Minor

Origin: Outer surface of ribs 3-5


Insertion: Coracoid process of the scapula


Actions: Protracts the scapula, depresses the scapula, downwardly rotates the scapula and elevates ribs 3-5

Origin: External occipital protuberance, nuchal ligament (C1-C6) and spinous processes of C7-T12


Insertion: Lateral 1/3 of the clavicle, acromion process and spine of the scapula


Actions: Laterally flexes the head/neck, extends the head/neck, contralaterally rotates the head/neck, elevates the scapula, retracts the scapula, depressed the scapula, upwardly rotates the scapula

Levator Scapulae

Origin: Transverse process of C1-C4


Insertion:Medial border of the scapula from the superior angle to the root of the spine


Actions: Elevates the scapula, extends the neck, laterally flexes the neck, ipsilaterally rotates the neck, downwardly rotates the scapula and retracts the scapula

Latissimus Dorsi

Origin: Spinous process of T7-L5, posterior iliac crest and posterior sacrum


Insertion: Medial lip of the bicipital groove of the humerus


Actions: Medially rotates the arm, adducts the arm, extends the arm at the GH joint

Serratus Anterior

Origin: Ribs 1-9


Insertion: Anterior surface of the medial border of scapula


Actions: Protracts the scapula, upwardly rotates the scapula

Rhomboid Minor

Origin: Spinous process of C7-T1


Insertion: Medial border of scapula at the root of the spine


Action: Retracts the scapula, elevates the scapula, downwardly rotates the scapula

Rhomboid Major

Origin: Spinous process of T2-5


Insertion: Medial border of scapula from the root of the spine to inferior angle


Action: Retracts the scapula, elevates the scapula, downwardly rotates the scapula

Teres Major

Origin: Inferior angle and inferior lateral border of scapula


Insertion: Medial lip of the bicipital groove of the humerus


Actions: Medially rotates, adducts and extends at the GH joint. "Fat little brother" to the Lats
