If a volcano is erupting it is said to be at what stage?

Active stage of the volcano life cycle.
If a volcano is not erupting, but could erupt in the future it is at what stage?
Dormant stage of the volcano life cycle.
If there is no chance of a volcano erupting it is at what stage?
Extinct stage of the volcano lifestyle
What happens to the magma chamber when a volcano reaches the extinct stage?
All the magma runs out, the magma chamber is empty in other words.
What tool is used to measure seismic activity on a volcano?
Seismograph
What does a tilt meter do?
Measure extremely subtle changes in a volcano's slope. An increasingly steep side, can indicate a buildup of gas and molten rock inside the mountain, making it swell.
What can satellites do to help monitor volcanoes?
Measure the ground around the volcano's to look for changes over time. When the ground inflates due to the rising magma underneath the satellites can detect this. If volcanic inflation is recorded the scientists will be able to have a better clue on when it's going to erupt.
What gases are detected by a gas meter
Changes in concentrations of carbon and sulfur gases might signal new batch of magma, or molten rock. The amount of malodorous hydrogen sulfide gas may also indicate an impending eruption.
Name five tools that are used to monitor volcanoes
1.Seismometer

2.Thermometer

3.Tilt meter

4.Gas meter

5.GPS

What are three warning signs of an eruption?
-If their is more seismically activity than normal

-Swelling of the volcano detected by the tilt meter.

-Gas meter can show the gas that volcano releases which can indicate the movement of the lava underneath the surface.

What is a pyroclastic flow?
A closely compacted, destructive mass of very hot ash, lava fragments, and gases ejected explosively from a volcano and typically flowing down slope at great speed.
Where does a volcano erupt?

From the weakest point

What are 2 things that harm the environment during a volcanic eruption?
Main effect on weather right near a volcano is that there is often a lot of rain, lightning, and thunder during an eruption. This is because all the ash particles that are thrown up into the atmosphere are good at attracting/collecting water droplets.

Another reason is, plants are destroyed over a wide area. But a good this is that the volcanic soil is very rich, so once everything cools off, plants can make a HUGE comeback.

Famine, Forest fires, and earthquakes.

What is the first wave to arrive during an earthquake?

P wave, primary wave

What is the last wave to arrive during an earthquake?

Surface Wave

What are the three fault names?
1.Normal

2.Reverse

3.Strike-slip

Epicenter
the point on the earth's surface vertically above the focus of an earthquake.
Caldera
a large volcanic crater, typically one formed by a major eruption leading to the collapse of the mouth of the volcano.

Vent

an opening that allows air, gas, or liquid to pass out of or into a confined space

Seismology

the branch of science concerned with earthquakes and related phenomena.
Volconology
the scientific study of volcanoes.
