data

Observations and measurements recorded during the expirement

observation

Something you know based on using your senses either with a tool or alone.

inference

Something you know or think you know based on observations.

hypothesis

A proposed answer to a scientific question, it is very similar to an inference, but more thought out.

independent variable

The things that the scientist changes; this is that you want to test. When graphing, the independent variable is placed on the X-axis.

I control the Independent variable.

dependent variable

Things that are measured and observed during the expirement, they are affected or changed by the independent variable. When graphing they are on the y-axis.

the DEPENEDENT variable DEPENDS on the lab results.

constants

Things that remain the same during an experiment, so they don't effect the outcome.

control group

A group of subjects or subject that are treated the sane as the experimental group, except for the independent variable which are kept constant

respiration

The ability of an organism to produce energy. Either aerobically (with O2) or anaerobic (without O2)

synthesis

The ability of an organism to make complex chemicals from the building blocks it takes in and absorbs.

SMALL <------> BIG

Sugar to stach

Amino acids to protein

excretion

The ability of an organism to get rid of metabolic waste from cells. Including salt, water, urea.

Sweating, urinating

regulation

The ability of an organism to maintain its internal balance or homeostasis. This is accomplished by the nervous system and endocrine system.

transportation

The ability of an organism to move up or circulate material around to where they need to be.

metabolism

Everything that happens in a living cell or organism.
