Energy

the ability to cause change

Kinetic Energy

the energy of an objects motion...... the amount of energy depends on the objects mass and speed

Potential Energy

the energy that an object has due to its position, condition or chemical composition

Mechanical Energy

the sum of an object's kinetic energy and potential energy

Energy Transformation

the process of energy changing from one form into another form

Law of Conservation of Energy

states that energy cannot be created of destroyed, but can only be changed from one form to another

Kinetic Theory of Matter

states that all of the particles that make up matter are constantly in motion

Temperature

a measure of the average kinetic energy of all the particle s in an object or substance (how hot or cold something is)

Thermal Energy

the total amount of energy present in an object or substance

Degree

the units of a temperature scale

Thermometer

an instrument that measures and indicates temperature

Absolute Zero

the temperature at which the motion of particles stops

Position

describes the location of an object

Reference Point

a location to which another location is compared

Motion

an objects change in position relative to a reference point over time

Speed

measure of how far something moves in a given amount of time
