Electronegativity

Fluorine is most electronegative and it decreases as it goes down the group

Reactivity group 7

Become less reactive going down so halogens can displace halogens below it

Reducing power of halogens

Increases down the group as the outer electrons are far away and so easier to donate

Halide ions and sulfuric acid

Fluorine and chlorine - produce HF/HCl and product

Bromine starts the same but will then create Bromine, sulfur dioxide and water

Iodide also makes H2S

Test for halide ions

Add silver nitrate

No precipitate =fluoride

White precipitate =chloride

Cream precipitate = bromide

White precipitate =iodide

Ammonia with silver nitrate

Cl dissolves in both

Bromide dissolves in concentrated ammonia

I do sent dissolve on either
