How you identify politically, consistent pattern of believes about political values in the role of the government, how government should work and how it actually works

American conservatives

They're the right side, primary political ideal is liberty, strong defense, and their traditional values are religious, patriotic, smaller government because a big one is a threat to liberty, they are pro-life, the social issues are they need more diversity, and a free market which means no restrictions on what government can do, they won't lower taxes, they believe the limited government ensures order, competitive markets, personal opportunity, pro business, people need strong leadership, from laws and strict moral codes, people of the architects of their own fortune, people must solve their own problems and create their own success, these people don't want taxes and support traditional family values

American liberals

They aren't the left side, their primary ideal is equality, big government can solve more and bigger problems, higher taxes paid for programs such as eight for poor, taxing wealthy, decrease in defense spending, business regulations which means Remarket won't protect people, they believe in environmental regulations, they seek to extend opportunities, some intervention in economy is necessary to remedy the defects of capitalism, government must eliminate discrimination, support a minimum wage, believe in affirmation action, protection for workers health and safety, tax rates based on wealth of

What is the difference between libertarians and conservatives?

Libertarians believe in personal freedom, conservatives believe in small government

What factors influence political socialization?

1) Family and their views- either believe the same as their parents, or rebel against their family which will lead them to believe the opposite


2) social groups such as race, gender (women tend to be more liberal than men) religion (Jewish equals liberal and Christianity equals conservative)


3) education teachers- and schools tend to be more liberal, More education more liberal

No because some groups believe in some views one side has but not all of them

Favors a radical or basic change impatient and would support the revolution to bring about the change that they want to see these people want to move forward very quickly

Ready to move forward and except change, but not a revolution, Preferred slow

In the middle of the spectrum, they are balanced

Conservatives

Content with the status quo and are not looking for change

Reactionary

One change but want to retreat into the past restore the way things used to be done

Conservative means to conserve traditions, customs, and government that have evolved over time, people need to be controlled for their best interest, and they believe that people need to be guided by the better educated and equipped
