Science
A process of using logic, observations, evidence, and prior knowledge to solve problems.
Scientific Method
A process of doing science.
Observation
Something that you notice about your surroundings using any of your senses.
Purpose
A question that you ask about your observations.
Hypothesis
A possible answer to your question that is testable and based on logic observations, prior knowledge, and evidence.
Experiment
Testing the hypothesis by collecting and recording data, often in a data table.
Analysis & Conclusion
Evaluating and interpretting your data to determine whether or not your hypothesis was correct.
Repeat
Repeating scientific method to test or retest a hypothesis.
Theory
Something that explains a wide sets of observations and facts; is backed by large amounts of evidence and has been tested multiple times by multiple people.
Quantitative Observations
An observation that has to do with numbers.
Qualitative Observations
An observation based on something you detected with your senses.
Direct Observation
An observation you can see.
Indirect Observation
Something that you detect with your senses.
Inference
Something that you assume to be true based on knowledge and evidence.
Variable
A condition that can change during an experiment.
Independent Variable
The variable that you can change.
Dependent Variable
A variable that changes as a result of the independent variable.
Controlled Experiment
An experiment that tests the effects of one independent variable at a time.
Control Group
The group of test subjects where the independent variable is not changed; set to "normal".
Experimental Group
The group of test subjects where the independent variable is changed and the results are compared to the control group.
Metric System
The univerasal system of measurement.
Meter
The measurement for length in the metric system.
Liter
The measurement for volume in the metric system.
Gram
The measurement for mass in the metric system.
