junctional rhythms
Rhythms that are initiated in the area of the AV junction.
104
juctional use to be known as
nodal
104
premature junctional contractions (PJCs)
Initiate from a single site in the AV junction and arise earlier than the next anticipated complex of the underlying rhythm.
105
PJC may have what type of pause?
noncompensatory or compensatory
105
noncompensatory pause
The pause that occurs after an ectopic beat, when the SA node is depolarized.
105
compensatory pause
A pause that occurs after an ectopic beat in which the SA node is unaffected and the cadence of the heart is uninterrupted.

Notes on PJCs
More uncommon than PACs, and especially PVCs. May occur in any rhythm. Easier to identify when the underlyning rhythm is Sinus brady. Count as part of rate, but check pulse to see if they are actually conducting.

Causes of PJCs
fever, anxiety, exercise, drug effects, stimulants, hypoxia, or myocadial ischemia, or may have no definitive cause.

junctional escape rhythm
When the SA node fails to generate an impulse or if the rate of impulse generation falls below that of the AV node will assume the role of the pacemaker, the resulting rhythm is called a juctional escape rhythm.
106
accelerated junctional rhythm
Increased automaticity in the AV junction, causing the junction to discharge impulse at a rate faster than its intrinsic rate. The rate is 60 to 100 bpm.
106
junctional tachycardia
When the junctional rate exceeds 100 bpm.
107
paroxysmal rhythm
A rhythm that you observed start or end abruptly
108
Tx for symptomatic junctional escape rhythm
They will probably only be symptomatic with the lower rates. Consider atropine or TCP.
110
Tx for symptomatic junctional tachycardia
Vagal maneuvers, drug therapy, and electrical therapy.

Idioventricular rhythms (IVRs)
Also called ventricular escape rhythms, result when the discharge rateof hiher pacemakers become less than that of the ventricles or when impulses from higher pacemakers fail to reach the ventricles.
122
agonal
When the rate of an IVR falls below 20 bpm.
122
accelerated idioventricular rhythm (AIVR)
Occurs when the rate of ectopic pacemaker is an idioventricular rhythm exceeds 40 bpm.
