What are the two tracers used for GI bleeding
99tc-RBC-20mCi
99Tc-sulfur Colloid- 10mCi |
What tracer is used for lower GI bleeds only
99tc-RBC-20mCi
What tracer is used for continous imaging of the abdomen
99tc sulfur colloid 10mCi
Why are blood tracers used ?
bc GI bleeding is an intermittent phenomenon and is sometimes missed by angiograms
If there is tracer inbetween the common iliacs where is the MC source of bleeding
rectum
(make sure it is not the bladder or ureters) |
What are some problems with interpreting blood scans
the blood will pool (and not be by the source) and there is some guess work with where the source of bleeding is
What is the tracer used to find a meckels diverticulmn
99tc-pertechnetate
Will you see all most meckels with a meckel scan
no, only the ones with gastric mucosa
but they are the only ones that need to be seen bc they are the only ones that bleed. |
What is the sequence of a meckels scan
blood pool and then after 15 minuts the stomach is seen
Is the kidney and bladder seen well in a meckels scan
yes
What is seen in an abnormal meckels scan
small, discrete, collection of tracer in the RLQ that increases progressively with the same timing as the stomach
What are some causes of confusion with meckels scan
renal collecting sytem or ureters
normal gastric activity in bowel inflammatory process (crohns, tumor, appendicitis, intussusception) |
How do you differentiate a meckels diverticulum from endometrial activity or inflammatory activity such as IBD
meckels accumulates with time and the others clear out with time
What is a good way to differentiate a splenule from a mass
Tc sulfur colloid study and the splenule will take up tracer
