Frictional

When you lose a job, then get a new one. Only between jobs for a very short time and you don't pay benefits.

Seasonal

When you finish doing your seasonal job (e.g. Santa) after demand goes down. You could be unemployed for a few months.

Cyclical

During a recession, jobs are lost across many industries and areas. It can be a long unemployment depending on how long the country takes to recover.

Structural

A whole industry is lost. Everyone who worked there is now unemployed, and their skills are no longer required e.g. coal mining in the UK.
