What is a simple sentence?
-One main clause
-Ex: Joe waited for the train. I looked for Samantha at the bus station before noon and left on the bus before they arrived. Logan Couture scores a goal.
-Hint: Look and see if two parts of the sentence are being connected. If not, it's likely a simple.
What is a compound sentence?
-Two or more main clauses and no subordinate clauses.
-Ex: Joe waited for the train, but the train was late. Logan looked to Thornton for support, but he was not in a good position to accept the puck.
-Compound=Two or more complete sentences connected together.
-Hint: Remove the contractions and see if all parts are complete sentences. If so, it's likely a compound.
What is a complex sentence?
-One main clause and one or more subordinate clauses.
-Ex: Because Mary and Samantha arrived at the bus station before noon, I did not seem that at the station. Logan Couture did not see his parents at breakfast, because they were tired from yesterday's dinner.
-Look out for subordinating conjunctions (not FANBOYS).
What is a compound-complex sentence?
-Two or more main clauses and at least one subordinate clauses.
-Although I like to go camping, I haven't had time to go lately, and I haven't found anyone to go with.
-Hint=Try to find two independent clauses that are not directly connected as in a compound.
