Effleurage |
Soft, continuous stroking movement applied with the fingers and palms. A slow and rhythmic gliding manner. The most important movement used to begin and end most massage sessions. |

Petrissage |
Kneading (pinching) movement that stimulates the underlying tissues (sebum) production and activate circulation and sluggish skin. |

Friction |
A rubbing movement (criss-cross) with consistent pressure on skin using fingers or palms moved over the underlying structures. Stimulates circulation and glandular activity of the skin. Chucking, rolling and wringing used on arms or legs. |

Tapotement i.e. Percussion |
Fast tapping, patting and hacking movements. The most stimulating massage and must be used carefully with discretion. Used for toning and good for sluggish skin. |

Rapid shaking movement (Michael J Fox) , a technician uses body and shoulders NOT just the fingers to create movement. Should not be used more then a few seconds. |
