Why is the tourism industry growing?
-People have more disposable income
-Companies allowing more leave for holidays
-Travel has become cheaper
-Holiday providers using new media, ends up making them cheaper too.
Why are other areas becoming more popular?
-Improvements have been made in transport (quicker and easier to move).
-Marketing in more unusual tourist destinations has improved, attracting people there more frequently.
-Infrastructure has been improved and made more attractive to visitors
How does tourism improve employment in certain countries?
-Creates jobs for locals (restaurants and hotels). Creates jobs in raw industry (pilots, travel agents/websites).
How does tourism improve the economy?
It increases the income of other businesses that supply the tourism industry. (e.g: farms that supply food to hotels. Assists growth into the economy.)
Are poor countries dependent on tourism?
Poorer countries are actually more dependent on tourism than richer ones. For example, tourism counts for 3% of the UK's GDP, but 15% of Kenya's.
