Verification
Methods to check that the data being typed in matches exactly the data on the document used to supply the information. Occurs after data entry.
Validation
The process which ensures that data accepted for processing is sensible and reasonable. Validation checks usually check that the data entered is appropriate for the field. Occurs during data entry.
Proof Reading

Carefully reading what has been typed and in and comparing it with what is on the data source (order forms, application forms, invoices etc) for any errors which can then be corrected.
