ADMIN= Do not crush tablets. *Discontinue 5 days pre-surgery*

ADVERSE= CV- increase BP and HR; CNS- dizziness fatigue; GI- nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, constipation
NURSING= monitor for worsening of depression, suicidal
Divan
Valsartan
TC= Anti-HTN and heart failure
PC= Angiotensin II receptor antagonist; anti-hypertensive
ACTIONS= Blocks the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE.) Blocking angiotensin II receptors results in VASODILATION as well as decreasing the aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. These actions result in the antihypertensive effect.
