Nelle Harper Lee was born and raised in her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama where she lived with her parents Amasa Lee and Frances Finch. There she helped her childhood friend Truman Capote in wrting his book In Cold Blood.When she was eighteen years old she attended school at Monroe County High School, while there she developed an interest in literacy.As soon as she graduated in 1944, she went to University of Alabama. But before she joined the university she became a title lawyer, where she defended two black men who were accused of killing a store owner and were later hanged. This was how she got the idea for her best selling book ,To Kill a Mockingbord". She was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her contribution to literature . Her book was later made into a movie in 1962 .When she finally joined the University she joined the school newspaper, The Rammer Jammer and later became the editor.
