Erie Canal

Built between 1817 and 1825, the Erie Canal cuts across New York State, creating a water route from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. It became a central trade route in the US.

Panama Canal

It connects the Isthmus of Panama and the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean. It was finished in 1914. It decreased the time it took to cross between two occasions as boats no longer had to travel all the way around the tip of South America.

Suez Canal

It was completed in 1869. It is a canal in Egypt and connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea. This made it easier to sail to Europe and South Asia.
