Describe Coxa Valga

Describe Coxa Vara

What is the Angle of anteversion?
Coxa valga- increased angle of inclination

Coxa Vara- decreased angle of inclination

Anteversion- femoral head is elevated 15-45 degrees above horizontal and rotated forward.
Describe 4 femoral neck fractures
1- subcapital: completely intracapsular

2- Transcervical: transects the neck.

3- Pertrochanteric: trochanters (greater or lesser)

4- Intertrochanteric: mostly extracapsular, often heal well
What artery supplies the majority of the the head and neck of the femur and which fracture puts that artery at risk?
medial circumflex artery- jeopardized with transcervical fx's
How will the pt present with a fx above the upper 1/3 of the shaft of the femur?
the proximal fragment will be pulled anteriorly, rotated laterally, and abducted.
How will the pt present with a fx in the middle 1/3 of the femoral shaft?
the proximal segment will be abducted causing it to lie lateral to the distal segment.
How will the pt present with a fx of the lower segment of the femoral shaft?
proximal fragment will be adducted by adductor muscles and lie medial to the distal fragment
how will the pt present with a supracondylar fracture?
The gastrocnemius pulls on the shaft causing the distal segment to be displaced posteriorly
how will the pt present with an intracondylar fracture?
result will be separation of the two distal articular surfaces of the femur
In general terms, what lies in the anterior compartment of the thigh?

What subcategories are there within the anterior compartment?
Flexors of the hip and extensors of the knee.

subcategories- deep muscles, superficial muscles, quadriceps muscles.
What muscles are the deep muscles of the anterior compartment?
Pectineus- femoral (L2-L4)
Iliopsoas- main flexor of the thigh.
What are the superficial muscles of the anterior compartment of the thigh?
Tensor of Fascia lata- superior gluteal nerve and deep branch of superior gluteal artery.

Sartorius- femoral nerve (L2-L3) and blood from lateral femoral circumflex a.
what makes up the deep fascia? what does it invest?
deep fascia= fascia lata (not to be confused with tensor fascia lata which is the muscle). Invests the large thigh muscles.
