Objective

Super Objective
What you character pursues/achieves in the entire play; your character's life goal
Scene Obective
What your charater wants for a specific scene
Obstacle
An internal or physical thing standing between you and your character's obejctive
Tactics
Active verbs; stredegy a character uses to overcome obstacles and acheive the objective
Stakes
What a character has to loose
Ensemble
A group of people working towards the same goal and no character "stands out" from the others; sense of "family" on stage
Impulse
A character's internal sudden action translated physically
Cross
A motivated movement from one part of the stage to another
Counter-Cross
A cross with another character for adjustment and to open out a scene
Character Observation
A developement technique through observing a character type and adapting the way the walk, talk, gesture, etc.
Given Circumstances
The who, what, when and where; according to Stanislavsky, these are aspects beyong a character's control (sex, gender, etc)
Motivation
The internal need behind a movement or text; the reasno why your character wants the objective.
Inner Monologue
A character's stream of conciousness; thought process
Magic "if"
Stanislovsky made this term; it is a way to get into character; If I was in this situation, what would I do?
Improvisation
Acting without a script but usually with some sort of guidelines/circumstances
Warm-Up Techniques
Vocal: Tongue Twisters
Alignment
Relaxation: Meditation
Off-Book
Memorizing text, blocking, including cues, exits, crossing, etc.
Breath Support
Using your diaphram and lower ribs when speaking text.
Projection
Using breath support to carry your voice to the back of the house
Articulation
The enunciation and pronunciation of text on stage.
Physical Relaxation
Alert restfulness and free of tension on stage (Like a cat)
Subtext
The thoughts that accompany a line that are implied but not spoken; created thoughts by actors to give the feeling of honesty/truth.
Emotional Recall
Actors relate to their characters by using their own emotional memories in scenes that are similiar to their character's
Beat/Beat Change
Specific movement in an actor's speech; marks a scene's change in direction
Characterization
Combination of the physical, vocal, emotional, and psychological choices an actor makes for playing their character
Read Through
Usually done at the first rehearsal; the actors, directers and stage manager first meet and go through the play together
Pace
The rate at which beat shifts occur, not necessarily pace; natural flow of action
Call Board
The area of the theater where information is posted including call times, schedules, sign in sheets, costume fittings, etc.
Tech Rehearsal
Rehearsals on the set incorporating lights, props, effects but not costumes; all about the acting
Call time
The time at which you are expected to be on stage performing; advised to come atleast 15 minutes early to warm up etc.
Dress rehearsal
Follows a tech rehearsal and adds in costumes and makeup. Show is run under performance conditions
Stage manager
Person who coordinates rehearsal schedules and actor conclicts; the one who takes blocking notes, is on book for actors, calls cues, calls breaks etc.
