The Missouri Compromise 1820
➢Applied for admission into the union as a slave state
➢Set off a debate (11 pro-slave and 11 slave states)
➢The Compromise:
o Maine separated from Massachusetts and entered the union as a free state, Missouri enters the Union as a slave state
o All other territories purchased in the Louisiana Purchase was closed to slavery
