The use of buffalo
The use of buffalo
The hide- moccasins, cradles, winter robes, shirts, leggings, belts, dresses, pipe bags, quivers, tipi covers, gun covers and dolls.
Muscles- are used for food.
Tail- decorations, fly brush and whips.
Fat- soap and cooking oil,
Bones- knives, arrow heads, shovels, scrapers, winter sleds, and saddles.
Dung- fuel.
Stomach- buckets, cups, dishes and cooking pots.
Hooves- glue and rattles.
Hair- headdresses, saddle pad filler, ropes and halters.
Tongue- hairbrushes.
Horns- cups, spoons, ladles and headdresses.
Roles of women, children and the eldery
Women- were greatly respected by other indians. They were in charge of making the buffalo parts into the essentials things they needed. They owned all the tipis that they made.
Children- They were trained and taught about how to ride and how to use a bow and arrow. They acted as lookouts for unwanted visitors.
Elderly- they were storytellers to tell children of their tribes achievements. When they became ill or helpless, they were left to die.
Problems and solutions farming
A lack of water- there wasnt enough rainfall to enable the crops to grow successfully.
Solution- dry farming.
A shortage of building materials- there wasnt enough supplies for everything,
Solution- they built there houses from sod blcoks from the ground.
Extremes of weather- The weather chamged, sometimes it would be scorching hot, or it could be torrential rain and winds.
Potecting the crops- farmers didnt have the materials or monet for fencing around there land.
Solutions- Barbed wire was invented, it was a cheap way to protect there crops and fence there land.
Tipis
Tipis
The shape- The winds go around the tipi rather than through it due to the cone shape. In the cold you can add more layers of buffalo skin to thicke it, and in the hot you can open vents to let air in.
They are put up with pegs, so they are easy to put done and up which was useful because they moved around a lot.
