cystitis
Inflammation of the bladder, usually caused by bacterial infection.
cystoscopy
Visual examination of the bladder using a specialized instrument. (endoscope)
diabetic nephropathy
A kidney disease that is the result of thickening and sclerosis of the glomeruli caused by long-term diabetes mellitus.
dialysis
A procedure to remove waste products and excess fluid from patients whose kidneys no longer function.
diuretic
Medications given to increase urine secretions to in order to rid the body of excess sodium and water.
epispadias

The destruction of kidney, urinary or bladder stones with the use of high-energy ultrasonic (sound) waves, then immediately flushing out the fragments. It is considered and minimally invasive surgical procedure.
peritoneal dialysis
A method of dialysis for patients with kidney failure in which blood is cleaned inside the patient's abdomen by the peritoneum, or lining of the abdominal cavity. it can be performed by patients at home, as opposed to hemodialysis which must be done at a hospital or clinic .
polycystic kidney disease
A inherited kidney disorder in which the kidneys become enlarged due to multiple cysts.
pyelonephritis
Inflammation of the renal pelvis and cortex usually caused by repeated bacterial infections.
renal calculi
A stone which forms in the kidney. It is a common cause of blood in the urine and pain in the abdomen, flank or groin, and affects 1 in 20 people at some time in their life.

The funnel-like reservoir of a kidney that empties into the ureter.
suerapubic catheterization
The placement of a catheter into the bladder through a small incision made through the abdominal wall above the pubic bone.
